Welcome to the Sandhills Handweavers Guild’s website. We meet every third Tuesday of the month on the campus of Sandhills Community College, which is located between Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC. We are an active group, where creativity and mutual support abound, and we never seem to run out of fiber-related topics to explore.
We draw our members from North Carolina’s Sandhills region in the south/central part of the state. Additionally, we have seasonal members and honorary members who have moved away from the area but like to stay in touch. Although a diverse group, our love of fiber in all its forms, brings us together.
If you are in the area, please join us. Just jump over to the contact page for additional information about how to become a member. If you’re not from around here, check out our website and join one of the on-going conversations on the forum page.
Listed below are some of our activities: (Please click on the title to learn more):
ABOUT US: Check out all about us–who we are and what we do.
MEETINGS: Our regular monthly programs are held in a classroom in the beautiful Ball Gardens Visitors Center at Sandhills Community College. Our programs cover a wide range of fiber topics, ranging from welcoming guest speakers to mini-workshops on a particular fiber technique.
SPECIAL EVENTS: In addition to our regular meetings, we have four or five special events during the year, including visits to members’ farms, historic sites in Moore County with fiber connections, Roc Day and Spinning and Weaving Week in October.
WORKSHOPS/STUDY GROUPS: As a Guild we are intent on fostering learning. For the past several years we have been able to offer our members weekend-long workshops at least once a year. Please follow the link to previous workshops and check out our future ones. Here, you’ll find more about our upcoming Acadian Weaving Workshop.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Guild members demonstrate weaving and spinning to school groups at Moore County Historical Association sites and at area elementary schools.
